A Letter from Our CEO

1of1 Servers started as a bet.

My friend Christian, who's now our COO, told me one night that he always wanted to start a hosting company. I said I'd build it. He said "yeah, you're not gonna make it." That was all I needed to hear.

The first game we hosted was Rust. We were running DDR3 servers and honestly it was awful. But I was already deep in FiveM at that point as one of the founders of Project Sloth, formerly known as LJ Labs, one of the biggest open source dev communities in the ecosystem, and I'd been dealing with the same problems every other developer kept running into. Hosting that couldn't handle the load. DDoS protection that folded the second a real attack came in. Support teams that didn't know what FiveM even was. Providers that just didn't get gamers or developers.

So instead of complaining about it we built the company we wished existed.

This was peak COVID. I was living in a one bedroom apartment with Windows sticky notes. Follow ups, DMs, leads, people I'd slid into their DMs asking if they wanted a server. At one point I dragged my mattress out of the bedroom and put it right next to my PC so I could nap between sales and get right back to it. There was no AI back then either. When I didn't know something I had to ask Google, call people, live on Stack Overflow. I learned networking, DDoS, and infrastructure the hard way by getting punched in the face by every problem until I figured it out.

The move that flipped everything was 10G speeds. Six years ago that was a premium nobody else was offering. Competitors were running 500 Mbps, maybe 1G if you were lucky. We rolled out 10G and made almost nothing on those early servers, but it forced everyone else to catch up. That's when 1of1 stopped being a side project and turned into a real company.

Today we host some of the biggest FiveM servers and gaming communities in the industry. The team's bigger, the infrastructure's bigger, but what we care about hasn't changed. We want our hardware to actually perform, our uptime to actually hold, our DDoS protection to actually work against the attacks that hit game servers, and our support to actually understand what you're building because we've built it ourselves.

What we promise hasn't changed since the mattress-next-to-the-PC days:

  • Performance that doesn't compromise. Cutting-edge hardware, real bandwidth, and the kind of headroom your project actually needs.
  • Uptime you can build on. Downtime isn't a setting we tolerate.
  • DDoS protection built for game servers. We know what attacks against FiveM and game servers actually look like, because we've been the ones defending against them for years.
  • Support that speaks your language. Our team isn't reading from a script, they're devs and gamers who've shipped real projects.

1of1 was built by people who got tired of bad hosting and decided to do something about it. To everyone who trusted us when we were nothing, thank you. We're just getting started.

With love,

Guillermo G.
